From Washington, D.C. to Africa: SARI Celebrates Youth Innovation at the World Bank Group Youth Summit 2026

June 2026 marked an important milestone in the journey of the Sixth African Region Initiatives (SARI) as our Founder and Executive Director proudly represented the organization at the 2026 World Bank Group Youth Summit in Washington, D.C.
Held on 11–12 June 2026 under the theme "FutureWorks: Designing Jobs for the Digital Age," the Summit brought together hundreds of young leaders, entrepreneurs, policymakers, innovators, and development practitioners from around the world to explore practical solutions for creating inclusive and sustainable employment opportunities for the next generation.
The Summit focused on three interconnected pillars: Jobs, Education & Skills, and Entrepreneurship.
Representing both SARI and Africa's growing community of youth entrepreneurs, our Founder participated as a delegate committed to advancing conversations on entrepreneurship, skills development, and economic inclusion across the continent.
One of the defining moments of the Summit came during the Innovation Lab, where delegates from diverse backgrounds were grouped to tackle real-world development challenges inspired by World Bank operations. Working alongside outstanding young professionals from Kenya and Liberia, our three-member team embraced the challenge with creativity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to developing practical solutions that place young people at the center of economic transformation.
Despite being one of the smallest teams participating in the challenge, the collaboration demonstrated that meaningful innovation is driven not by numbers but by vision, expertise, and the willingness to work across borders. The team's solution focused on strengthening education and skills pathways to prepare young people in Africa for the rapidly evolving digital economy, reflecting a belief that Africa's greatest resource is its human capital.
The experience reinforced SARI's mission of creating opportunities that connect youth and women entrepreneurs with the knowledge, partnerships, and ecosystems needed to build resilient businesses and create sustainable jobs.
Beyond the competition, the Summit offered invaluable opportunities to engage with World Bank experts, development practitioners, private sector leaders, and fellow innovators from across the globe. Conversations throughout the event highlighted a common understanding that solving unemployment requires collaborative action, investment in entrepreneurship, and stronger linkages between education, technology, and industry.
For SARI, our founder participation in the 2026 World Bank Group Youth Summit is more than an international achievement, it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to building an Africa where young people are not only beneficiaries of development but architects of it.
The insights gained in Washington DC will directly inform SARI's upcoming youth capacity-building programmes for SMEs and MSMEs across Africa, with a special focus on empowering women and young entrepreneurs through mentorship, skills development, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
As we continue expanding our impact across the continent, we remain guided by one simple belief: when African youth are equipped with the right skills, connected to the right opportunities, and empowered to lead, they become the driving force behind inclusive growth and sustainable development.
This milestone belongs not only to SARI but to every young African innovator who dares to imagine a better future and works tirelessly to make it a reality.
