Understanding Near Field Communication (NFC): Technology, Applications, and Benefits

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless communication technology that enables data exchange between devices when they are brought within a few centimeters of each other. It is a subset of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology and operates at the 13.56 MHz frequency. NFC has become an integral part of modern digital interactions, allowing users to connect devices, make payments, and share data effortlessly.

How NFC Works

NFC technology allows two devices—a reader/writer and a tag or another NFC-enabled device—to establish communication by bringing them into close proximity. It operates in three primary modes:

Reader/Writer Mode: One device reads or writes data to an NFC tag. For example, a smartphone reading an NFC-enabled poster or smart card.
